| For 2012 the route remains much the same
as previous years, however the tour will end at the Garden Route Mall
to co-incide with the OCC kick-off press conference. Of
course, if you ride the 42km OCC race, you will have done the full
557km in 7 days. We are trying to find quicker places/ways to have
lunch en route so that riders dont get too cooled off during the lunch
breaks. Due to a severe shortage of wheelchair accessible accommodation, there is limited space for permanent wheelchair users, so if you are keen to ride the Toer de Kaap 2012, drop us an email: info@ghrc.co.za but dont leave it too late. Or if you are certain you will ride, download the Entry form, complete it and mail it back to us - if you are a first time rider you will need to provide a doctors certificate of fitness as well. The sooner you contact us and pay a holding deposit of R2000.00 the sooner you can rest assured of your place on this extreme event! NB. Entries close on 31st December 2011. Once again, this is a tour, with the emphasis on training and having FUN! This is not a flat out race, in fact its not a race at all so there is no official start time or start line. Just come on out and have some fun in the sun! View it as an huge awesome training opportunity, but remember that the terrain and the weather make this an extreme event. In 2009, the temperature on the 5th day reached 49 deg C. Rain is also a distinct possibility, as we found out in 2010. Remember, this is South Africa, so you need to be prepared to experience all four seasons in one day! In 2011 the mist was so thick on Robinson Pass you could barely see 20m ahead of yourself at times. Who knows what 2012 has in store for us! Every year the weather has some surprise or other for us.
